SnowLab Athlete Project is a federally incorporated Canadian nonprofit organization created to support athlete access, facility sustainability, and community-based snow sport development in Alberta.

SLAP exists to reduce barriers for athletes and families while strengthening the training infrastructure athletes rely on. Through facility access, partnerships, memberships, sponsorships, and community support, SLAP works to create more opportunities for athletes and a more sustainable future for off-snow training in Calgary.

Building Sustainable Snow Sport Infrastructure in Alberta

Our Purpose

Snow sport development can be expensive, seasonal, and difficult to access. Athletes often need year-round training environments, qualified support, and consistent opportunities to progress safely.

SLAP was created to address those challenges by supporting:

  • Accessible athlete training opportunities
  • Long-term facility sustainability
  • Community partnerships
  • Program and membership support
  • Facility improvements and equipment access
  • Athlete development infrastructure

Our goal is to help athletes participate, progress, and stay connected to sport year-round.

Organizational Clarity

SnowLab Athlete Project, The Spot YYC, and RT Freeski serve different roles within the broader athlete-development ecosystem.

SnowLab Athlete Project is the nonprofit organization.
The Spot YYC is the physical training facility operated by SLAP.
RT Freeski is an independent program and coaching provider.

SLAP’s governance and operations are structured to recognize and manage relationships with independent service providers, facility operations, and individuals connected to the organization. Where SLAP works with related parties or outside providers, those relationships are reviewed and approved through appropriate nonprofit governance processes.

This distinction helps ensure transparency, accountability, and clear governance as SLAP develops its membership, partnership, sponsorship, and community support programs.

Our Focus

SLAP is currently focused on building a strong foundation for long-term impact.

Current priorities include:

  • Supporting the long-term viability of The Spot YYC
  • Building membership and supporter pathways
  • Developing sponsorship and partnership opportunities
  • Supporting athlete access initiatives
  • Improving facility infrastructure
  • Building community trust and nonprofit credibility
  • Creating fundable projects for grants, sponsors, and donors

The Spot YYC

The Spot YYC is the physical training facility operated by SnowLab Athlete Project.

Located in Calgary, The Spot YYC provides off-snow training infrastructure for freestyle snow sport athletes, teams, and community programs.

SLAP’s role is to support the long-term operation, improvement, and accessibility of The Spot YYC so it can continue serving athletes and the broader snow sport community.

Program Delivery

SLAP supports athlete access and development opportunities through facility access, partnerships, community programming, and board-approved program delivery agreements.

RT Freeski is an independent program and coaching provider. Where applicable, RT Freeski may deliver ski-specific coaching or direct athlete-contact programming under a board-approved agreement with SLAP.

This structure allows SLAP to focus on nonprofit priorities such as access, sustainability, facility support, partnerships, and community benefit, while qualified program providers deliver technical coaching and athlete-facing services when appropriate.

Community Support

SLAP is building a founding base of members, partners, sponsors, donors, service providers, and community supporters who want to strengthen athlete access and facility sustainability.

Support may include financial contributions, in-kind services, equipment support, facility improvement support, athlete access funding, or partnership-based athlete benefits.

Every contribution helps reduce barriers, create opportunity, and strengthen the long-term future of athlete development infrastructure in Calgary.
